Job Description

The Senior Engineering Technician position is to provide support to engineering and manufacturing for product design/development, fabrication, assembly, and testing of hardware for use on commercial, military and space applications.  The senior technician must be capable of assembling and/or testing a variety of electro-mechanical products to military and space standards while meeting customer quality and on‐time delivery schedules.

The Senior Engineering Technician shall actively contribute to continuous improvement and lean initiatives to increase productivity and reduce costs. The Senior Engineering Technician should have the ability to work autonomously, with minimal supervisory guidance on multiple projects and demonstrate proficient time management and decision-making skills while working in a dynamic result-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex assembly/test functions utilizing mechanical skills, hand and power tools, mechanical/electronic tools, test equipment, assembly fixtures, and inspection measurement equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Sets up complex test equipment on a variety of products to measure and record system conformance to test specifications. Sets up test stands with appropriate mechanical interfaces and instrumentation required from product test specifications.
  • Verifies accuracy of test stand and set‐up prior to testing and makes necessary adjustments to attain specified test results. Trouble shoots and resolves most set up problems independently.
  • Conducts tests using common and/or computerized data acquisition equipment (i.e. Labview), and interprets test results on data forms. Uses X‐Y recorders, oscilloscopes, transducers, and other related equipment. Troubleshoots and reworks malfunctions disclosed by test data independently. Verifies new production assembly and test procedures and recommends processes to achieve desired results.
  • Performs diagnostic teardown and rebuilding of product, including evaluation of suitability of components, according to customer specifications.
  • Produces and inspects assemblies that conform to product specifications. Assembles, tests, and/or solders to customer and/or industry standards.
  • Interprets blueprints, engineering orders, assembly routes, test specifications, service bulletins, customer requirements, and quality directives.
  • Actively leads lean initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement.
  • Interfaces with support functions to solve product problems and conduct work according to business contract.
  • May perform inspection tasks as required to gather dimensional values, utilizing high resolution measuring instrumentation.
  • Observes all safety rules and maintains a foreign object damage (FOD) free work area. Ensures all equipment is calibrated in accordance with calibration schedule.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, +5 years’ experience in a related field.
  • A background in manufacturing assembly, and familiarity with electronic and mechanical test equipment, test procedures, and installation documentation are highly desirable.
  • Laboratory equipment experience (e.g., oscilloscope, digital multimeter, power supplies, thermal vacuum chambers, vibration equipment)
  • Capable of reading and interpreting manuals, specifications, drawings and blueprints.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting meters, gauges, charts, and a variety of instruments.
  • Capable of troubleshooting of electrical/mechanical components and systems.
  • Ability to identify faults and issues within assemblies and implement appropriate fixes.
  • Strong analytical thinking and ability to analyze data.
  • Be able to clearly report progress and results by producing high quality written documentation. 
  • Must have strong communication skills and be able to present test results and technical data, both orally and in writing, in clear and concise terms.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic result-oriented environment.
  • Must have excellent organizational, time management, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
