Job Description
The role requires a fundamental understanding of both mechanical and optical principles. The individual must be a self-starter and is desired to have hands on experience working with optical and mechanical hardware and/or test equipment. The selected candidate will be expected to execute in a small, yet diverse, team environment through all phases of the product life cycle. This includes concept development, detail design, qualification, manufacturing transition, and production support. The engineer will be responsible for supporting the development of innovative and robust HMI hardware solutions to meet demanding customer requirements and will leverage their mechanical engineering expertise to perform detailed design and analyses. Day to day, activities may include working with 3D solid models, drawings, performing analyses to assure fit & function; performing basic thermal, structural/stress, and vibration analyses; assessing designs against environmental requirements; as well as conducting test and verification efforts. The ideal candidate will have a desire to learn about and contribute in the following areas:
· Design and development of HMI hardware
· Optomechanical design & analysis
· Design and development of mechanisms
· Product/Factory Support of DoD military electronics/avionics equipment
· State-of-the-art mechanical engineering design and development tools
· Application of MIL and industry specs & standards
· Engineering documentation and presentations
Job Skills
Required Skills and Education
· Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree.
· Experienced in fundamentals of mechanical design, analysis, and documentation principles
· Experienced in fundamentals of optical design, analysis, and documentation principles
· Experienced in opto-mechanical manufacturing and test methodologies
· Experienced with state-of-the-art mechanical engineering development tools
· Experience with SolidWorks and the SolidWorks vault
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Motivated self-starter and problem solver with ability and desire to work in diverse multi-disciplinary teams
· Supervisory experience and desire to mentor junior engineers
