Job Description

The Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) Operator is responsible for conducting
inspections of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and through-hole printed circuit board
assemblies to identify defects using AOI equipment, ensuring compliance with IPC Class
II and III standards. This encompasses auditing, documentation, and verification
processes. A thorough understanding of IPC-610 and IPC-620 work standards is
required. The operator will perform detailed inspections of circuit board assemblies,
operate AOI equipment, adhere strictly to IPC standards, conduct audits, and maintain
precise documentation, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and a
comprehensive knowledge of IPC standards.
Principal Responsibilities:
• Ensure SMT AOI Equipment is correctly setup, operated, and maintained
• Perform optical inspections on all printed circuit boards that have gone through
SMT processes
• When necessary, optimize the AOI Program to align with SMT customer
requirements
• Conduct evaluations of Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) procedures to
guarantee accurate and consistent defect detection
• Execute program loading in accordance with established documentation
• Implement programmatic modifications to optimize inspection effectiveness
• Operate AOI machine
• Work closely with QA Manager and Process Engineers to resolve quality concerns
• Participate in company or special training classes with emphasis on employee
improvement
• Maintain the function and condition of the AOI machines
• Train or cross train AOI operators
• Ensure work area is kept clean and safety rules are followed
• Perform other reasonable duties as assigned
Essential Responsibilities:
• Basic computer skills, including the ability to learn and utilize ERP systems.
• Proven experience in operating AOI machines and inspecting SMT PCBs.

• Essential knowledge and skill in operating area-specific equipment.
• Soldering experience that meets IPC-A-610/620 standards.
• Familiarity with IPC-A-610/620, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies.
• Ability to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions, with strong
English communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to daily changing priorities.
• Expertise in operating Koh Young and Nordson AOI machines.
• Proficiency in inspecting PCAs, box build units, and/or materials in accordance
with IPC 610/J-STD workmanship standards.
• Comprehensive understanding of SMT and Through-hole processes.
• Ability to interpret and apply industry standards, engineering drawings, and
specifications.
• Strong computer and mathematical skills.
• Ability to identify components and component values.
• Ability to perform detailed work under magnification.
• Adherence to all inspection through-hole requirements.
• Ability to document all faults within the QC/QA systems.
• Ability to provide consistent feedback to all production lines to facilitate product
quality improvements.
• Ability to communicate process or component deviations to the SMT machine
operator and technical support staff for immediate resolution.
• Ability to create new programs and modify existing programs as needed.
• Ability to analyze and interpret Engineering Change Notices.
• Ability to accurately enter inspection data into computerized processes.
• Mentor and guide coworkers/new hires as required.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.
• Maintain compliance with company safety policies by adhering to all established
safety protocols and ESD procedures to protect sensitive electronic components.
• Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Computer literacy is essential, along with the ability to read, write, review, and
approve documentation.

skills and professional development.

Desired Qualifications:
• High school diploma is mandatory.
• College diploma or university degree in a technical discipline is highly preferred.
• Minimum of three years of experience within an electronics assembly environment
is strongly favored.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of IPC A 610, IPC-A-620, and J-STD standards
is required.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Physical Requirements: Employees will regularly alternate between standing and
sitting according to the needs of each job or task being performed and will also endure
lengthy periods of sitting, standing and walking. Tasks require bending, as well as pushing
and pulling equipment throughout the facility and operating various warehouse
equipment. Proficiency with computer skills is also essential and may require the
employee to stand or sit while using the computer. Due to the physically intensive nature
of this role, employees should anticipate spending the majority of their work hours on
physical tasks.
This position demands significant physical capability and stamina to effectively execute
job duties. The role requires consistent participation in diverse physical tasks throughout
each workday, including but not limited to:

• Pushing/Pulling: Pushing or pulling carts, trays, equipment, tools, etc. in
accordance to job needs.
