Job Description
- Sets up and welds metal aerospace components according to specifications, applying knowledge of welding techniques.
- Cleans and assembles components and selects holding or clamping fixture according to size and type of work piece.
- Monitors power supply and welding gas systems.
- Reviews specifications to determine equipment settings, applying knowledge of TIG welding and metal characteristics.
- Adjusts welding gas, current setting and adjusts high voltage settings.
- Adjusts current to attain proper weld penetration and fusion of metal components.
- Visually inspects work piece for depth of weld penetration, width of joining, holes, and inclusions.
- Cleans weld equipment, fixtures, using hand tools.
Job Skills
- Basic knowledge of metallurgy and inspection techniques.
- Possess three (3) to five (5) years of welding experience (TIG, MIG) in a manufacturing environment.
- Capable of proficiently performing the essential duties.
- Fully capable of reading, understanding, and following written and oral work instructions in English.
- Ability to lift or transfer components or objects of no more than 30 pounds.
- Hold a high school diploma or GED.
- Possess good mathematical skills and basic computer skills.
- Able to proficiently interact with other employees and possess good interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with materials such as Inconel, hastelloy, waspalloy and 300 series stainless steel.
- Familiarity with welding standards, i.e., MIL’STD=1595, PWA 16.
- Contributes to continuous improvement and supports 6S initiatives.
- Generates suggestions for improving work; develops innovative approaches and ideas.
- Willing and able learn to perform other functions in a cellular manufacturing environment, i.e., deburring, metal straightening, CNC milling or turning machine operation, and resistance welding.
- High School diploma or GED.
- 3 – 5 years working knowledge TIG welding equipment and techniques.
- Experienced with welding fundamentals and welding of high temperature, corrosion resistant alloys in a production environment.
- Able to read and interpret blueprints and assist in tooling and process development.
- Considerable ability to use a variety of hand and pneumatic tools.
- Understand written and oral instructions in English and applied mathematics.
- Considerable skill to use various precision measuring instruments.
- Observe company policies, rules and regulations, i.e., conform to safe work practices; adhere to proper manufacturing protocols; meet customer specifications, and quality requirements.
- Light industrial work setting. Job involves lifting up to 30lbs. in a manufacturing environment that may occasionally require the employee to work in a number of awkward positions.
