Job Description

• Utilizes a broad knowledge of mechanical, electrical devices, engineering mathematics, manufacturing methods, machine tools, and related mechanical engineering practices to develop equipment construction with established dimensional and weight limits (considering function, cost, fabrication, assembly, and maintenance),.
• Prepares two dimensional layouts using current company mechanical CAD software, such as Solid Works and/or AutoCAD.
• Adheres to company and industry standards to ensure mechanical, electrical and manufacturing integrity of the design.
• Utilize AutoCAD and/or Solid Works to analyze tolerances, Center of Gravity calculation, dimensions and other detailed design data used to fabricate parts.
• Implements Mechanical design process to achieve a physical design.
• Works closely with hardware and manufacturing engineers during the design process to ensure that the physical design accurately reflects and meets of the mechanical design and DFM requirements.
• Responsible for mechanical design aspects of a total design project under the supervision of a project engineer.
• Supports the engineering documentation process by issuing new part numbers, creating structured BOMs and supportive assemblies for mechanical projects.
• Generates ECOs to release new parts, and updates existing drawings and documentation.
• Verifies that designed products meet specifications by testing for environmental specifications, tolerances, etc.
• Make decisions related to work discipline as well as analytical approach/methodology and work flow. Usually responsible for performing a significant level of research for input into decision process. Expected to develop recommendations on course of action. Precedent and guidelines are usually available. Usually expected to develop initial recommendations for decision process. Decisions involve impact on multiple organizations, schedule, outside vendors and manufacturing.

Job Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of applied experience.
• Proficient with AutoCAD and/or Solid Works software application. Possesses analytical problem solving skills and creative conceptualization skills. Works precisely and pays close attention to details
• Advanced organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Contributions and knowledge may extend to multiple related disciplines. Has broad knowledge of design process, manufacturing and fabrication processes. Involved with conceiving alternate design strategies and problem resolution.
