Job Description

  • Set-up and operate manual lathe machines to perform turning operations on a variety of materials including super alloys, nickel based, titanium and inconnel. Parts machined to exacting tolerances and specifications.
  • Makes all edits and adjustments as required to produce parts to work orders/blue print specifications/sketches. 
  • Operate more than one machine when required.
  • Read and analyze process sheets, tool sheets, blueprints, dimensional specifications and set requirements. Use proper programs and tooling.
  • Inspect parts to verify conformance to specifications using a variety of gauges and micrometers.
  • Adjust machine controls and tool setting to insure dimensions meet specific tolerances.
  • Install proper holding fixtures and tool holders
  • Life parts into machine via manually or by hoist and secure machine parts and equipment.
  • Move controls to set cutting speeds, feeds and depth in relation to part
  • Position secure and align cutting tools and holders on machine
  • Compute unspecified dimensions and machine settings using knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics
  • Replace worn tools and dies
  • Complete preventive maintenance procedures on equipment
  • Provide troubleshooting skill to problem programs and parts
  • Responsible for accurately completing paperwork relating to counts, scrap, time, etc according to Company policy
  • Performs duties exercising good machining practices at all times
  • Maintains area, equipment, and tooling in a neat, orderly condition including operator maintenance sheets
  • Maintains coolant tanks and fills as necessary
  • Trains, guides and assists other employees as required
  • Observes all Company policies, rules, and regulations including good housekeeping, safety and security

Job Skills

  • Experience setting up and operating precision machining centers and equipment
  • Familiarity with Leblond, MoriSeiki and Hardinge engine lathes
  • Must be proficient in first piece inspection, off-sets and tool changes
  • Experience machining parts with close tolerances and aerospace type requirements
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of feeds and speeds and a working knowledge of cutting tools and their application
  • Capable of producing quality and quantity of work in accordance with Company requirements
