Job Description

• Responsible for regulatory compliance relating to OSHA, EPA, workers compensation, and with all Company policies, practices and procedures.
• Environmental duties include environmental monitoring, evaluating and updating any/all permit conditions, state and federal environmental laws and regulations.
• Safety duties include the application of all state and Federal OSHA rules and regulations to assure safety compliance.
• Manage and administers the Worker’s Compensation program.
• Report functionally to the Corporate EHS Director and locally to the Plant Site Leaders.

Environmental, Health & Safety Compliance:
• Assures that the Company complies with all local, state and federal environmental regulations.
• Monitors all physical locations for compliance and improvement opportunities.
• Assures all permits and records are current, accurate and valid.
• Conducts effective investigations into EHS incidents.
• This position must also work closely and effectively with corporate and external counsel.
• Maintains effective relationships with all agencies, compliance officers and inspectors.
• Company Policies and Procedures:
• Communicates all Company policies and procedures for compliance.
• Administers policies and procedures in an equal manner.
• Continually reviews and updates Company policies to reflect regulatory changes, changes in operations as necessary to support management strategy, objectives and goals.
• Professional knowledge and development:
• Maintains professional knowledge and professional certifications where necessary in the areas of environmental and safety laws, regulations and state of the art processes and procedures to achieve Company objectives and goals.
• The incumbent will work with a diverse group of teams or individuals that will include regulations, contractors, lawyers, consultants and a wide variety of internal resources. A significant portion of the job duties and expectation for that position is that the position will spend the majority of hours actively engaged in the operations; walking through the operations on a daily basis, working with supervisors and hourly employees to assure safety of the individuals and the operations.
• This position will have significant work with regulators in the areas of environmental and safety compliance. The position will work closely with Corporate EHS, and plant employees & management.

Environmental Functions
• Coordinate and assure all operations are in legal compliance by communicating compliance exceptions to responsible managers and corporate officials.
• Pursue effective proactive compliance efforts to include pollution prevention planning.
• Obtain environmental permits and negotiate with government agencies at various locations.
• Assist Managers/Superintendents in the supervision or coordination of response to any environmental incidents or emergencies.
• Facilitates ISO 14001 development, implementation, training and registration
• Manage environmental improvement capital projects, inactive property cleanup projects, and active operations cleanup projects.
• Provide annual environmental compliance reports for Internal Audit and Legal Department.
• Provide annual EHS budgets for environmental expenditures, and capital projects
• Train managers, supervisors, and employees for operational understanding of current EHS laws and regulations.
• Serve as the company contact when government regulators are performing EHS compliance or inspections/audits.
• Provide all required environmental reports for the Company as well as regulatory agencies.
• Supervise environmental contractors and consultants for all environmental work required.
• Manage MSDSs/SDSs, control incoming materials to ensure all items onsite have current MSDS/SDS, receive new product requests and process for purchases.
• Train and oversee responsible individuals at each site to respond to environmental spills, manage waste products, and reliably conduct environment testing as needed.
• Establish and manage the Sustainability initiatives.

Safety Functions
• Assures compliance with applicable State and Federal OSHA safety regulations and Company policies This includes: responsibility for coordinating the documentation of the Company Compliance Training Program for mandated environmental and safety regulations written by the Federal and State Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), and other agencies.
• An informational resource for Departments, Operations Managers, worker compensation, facility safety committees, and other miscellaneous third-party liability matters.
• Works with outside consultants to improve safety performance and reduce incidents/injuries.
• Be an active member and attend safety meetings at the facilities.
• Reviews, updates, and prepares mandated written safety policies and programs, provide “train the trainer” sessions for Supervisors presenting the data to employee groups.
• Coordinates with Human Resource to train managers, supervisors, and employees for operational understanding of current safety laws and regulations.
• Conducts routine internal safety audits of the operations to insure day to day compliance of Company safety policies and procedures.
• Serves as the company contact when government regulators are performing compliance or enforcement audits.
• Reports any accident(s) that require Federal OSHA reporting in a timely manner.
• Provides follow up on Corporate Compliance report variances and other safety compliance commitments.
• Assists in the coordination of training for mandated safety and environmental topics.
• Ensures injury / illness reports are properly recorded on theOSHA injury log.
• Prepares and communicates the monthly safety metrics.
• Monitors contract agreements for compliance with Federal, State and Company regulations with regard to safety. Takes active role in service agreements and contractor oversight to reduce company liability.
• Works with supervisors and other company personnel to update training materials.

Workers Compensation Functions
• Manages, participates in, and administers the workers’ compensation insurance program. This includes administration of the accident investigation, issuing worker’s compensation paperwork when needed to employees, assuring the employer’s report of injury is filed, and working with the third party administrator in following case management of workers’ compensation matters.
• Contributes to managing claim costs by working with the workers’ compensation administrator to assure regular personal contact, encouraging return to work.
• Corresponds with corporate loss control experts and insurance company claim representatives to strengthen the company worker’s compensation and loss prevention program
• Participates in claim investigation, denials, settlements, compromise and release, vocational rehabilitation, reviewing and estimating case reserves, annual reporting to the state, a focus on reducing/eliminating ADA liability, medical management, and servicing our injured workers. Case settlement requires an approval process.

Job Skills

• BA or BS degree in environmental science or related field such as industrial technology/safety or engineering degree.
• Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in an industrial setting with environment health and safety responsibilities.
• HAZWOPER certification.
• Provides continual analysis and inspection of complex environmental and safety rules and regulations and provide effective and practical solutions to complex problems
• Effective and professional relationships with co-workers within immediate work group, outside the immediate department and with key contacts outside the Company
• Effective and productive communication skills, the ability to speak well, communicating ideas clearly. In addition, the incumbent must write well, clearly and concisely, be approachable, and open to discussion.
• Strong organizational skills. Demonstrated self-starter takes on and completes work without prompting.
• The incumbent must understand the federal and state requirements governing environmental and safety issues for industrial manufacturing.

Desired Experience:
• Experience in aerospace and jet engine manufacturing.
• Experience performing industrial hygiene work that includes environmental testing and application of regulations.
• Proven ability/experience in working with and building effective relationships with state and federal regulators.
