Job Description
• Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering the Director is accountable for leading and managing the Systems and Project Engineering teams performing research, analysis and design of communications systems involving troposcatter, microwave, satellite, HF and VHF/UHF radio, and Project Management.
• Takes lead responsibility for development of technical proposals against customer requirements and preparing the system design and associated documentation.
• Works closely with program management and Marketing and takes a lead role in proving a technical interface with customers.
• Provides support during discussions with new customers and expertise in the consideration of new technologies/products.
• The Director monitors and evaluates technical direction and performance on programs served by their organization.
• Leading and managing the Engineering team
• Mentors, coaches and develops Engineering team members
• Manage and participates in the preparation of cost summaries and writing technical documents for bids and proposals
• Directs and reviews Projects and mentors Project Engineers. Manages overall project budgets and performance
• Evaluates system analysis against performance requirements and directs the Engineering team in identifying technical solutions to meet customer needs
• Directs and reviews the production of systems designs and the writing of detailed specifications.
• Reviews system integration plans and procedures for products and systems.
• Identify product improvements and modifications to improve performance.
• Coordinates with other teams within Engineering and provides an interface to other functional groups within the organization
• Involved in other related projects as assigned by management
Job Skills
• Must be a strong technical leader, with excellent interpersonal skills, understand the philosophy of process and most importantly have an ability to work the entire business cycle
• Must have a thorough understanding of communications theory and systems, specifically microwave radio, satellite and troposcatter systems including experience on the following:
• Systems analysis and design
• Generating technical documents, specifications, test plans and procedures
• Tracking and reporting project progress including tracking project budgets
• Ability to lead a technical team in a fast paced environment
• Must understand proposal preparation process
• Experience as a Chief Engineer, or Technical Director, and a Unit Manager.
• Must have lead an engineering effort from a concept development phase though the Operational evaluation phase while meeting cost, schedule, technical achievement and adherence to processes.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Bachelors Degree in an engineering discipline, Masters desired.
• 15+ years experience with a minimum of 5 years in a Senior Engineering management role
• Must have or be able to obtain a passport and be available for business travel domestically and internationally.
