Job Description
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, NYSDEC, SCDHS and Local requirements, as well as complying with Air Force Environmental Health and Safety Standards (AFOSH). As part of a team, the EHS Engineer will also support satellite sites.
- Participates actively in the management of the organization to establish policies and directions to achieve leadership within the EHS program.
- Implement the EHS program within the scope of associated contracts, and responsible for compliance with all applicable EHS and corporate management standards.
- Must be able to work with internal and external customers, to include supporting associate contractors.
- Ensures that all applicable internal and external reporting requirements are performed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Conducts workplace surveys, safety audits and assessments. Advises management of conditions requiring corrective action.
- Provides/supports EHS briefings and training sessions as appropriate to fulfill regulatory requirements and foster a safe working environment.
- Performs accident investigations to determine probable cause and produces and maintains necessary documentation and permits.
- Maintains required site permits and licenses.
- Establishes and maintains necessary contacts with site, customer, county, state, federal, and Air Force EHS regulatory agencies.
- Experience with Hazardous Communications-Global Harmonization Systems (GHS), performing weekly container inspections, appropriate labeling, Emergency Procedures, and Hazardous properties.
- Maintains required records in accordance with regulatory, and company requirements, such as, PPE, training, certifications, inspections, audits, Hazardous waste pickup’s (manifest), fire prevention records, etc.
Job Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and 10+ years of experience.
- Knowledge of EPA, OSHA, DOT, NYSDEC, and SCDHS requirements.
- Work is performed in multiple environments to include office, project, outside, clean room, and possibly launch site location support. Some travel required.
- Preferred Additional Skills: Experience with OSHA programs such as Electrical, Aerial Work Platforms, Crane Operations, Lead and Asbestos, Ergonomics, Lockout-Tag-out, Emergency Response and other related OSHA requirements stated in 29 CFR 1910 and 1926; Experience with EPA, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Regulations; Experience with DOT Hazardous Waste and Hazardous Material Regulations & NYS 6 NYCRR; Experience with ATF Federal Explosives Laws and Regulations and New York State (12 NYCRR 39); Experience with Suffolk County Department of Health Service (SCDHS)- Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Article 12
