Job Description

• Responsible for the design of complex configuration control, production access, and production handling tools.
• Responsible for stress analysis of tooling structures as well as ensuring that designs meet specified requirements.
• Applies Design For Manufacturing (DFM) techniques to product design.
• Reviews designs with manufacturing to ensure tooling is appropriate.
• Design sheetmetal hydro form, deep draw form, tri roll forming dies, assembly jigs and fixtures etc.
• Will prepare tool designs from concept, to finished tool drawings using SolidWorks solid modeling techniques, and coordinate with fabrication skill centers as a tooling liaison.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, symbols and geometric tolerances based on military and commercial specifications.
• Technical knowledge of machining tools and practices, materials, heat treating, plating, die castings, sand castings, investment castings, stampings, forgings, powdered metal, plastics processing, and gauging.
• Strong knowledge in: Sheetmetal forming tool concepts and practices, mechanical manufacturing processes, mechanical drawing standards, principles of design and applicable mathematics knowledge.
• Proficient in any or all of the following software applications: Keycreator, Unigraphics, Solidworks.
• Able to manage engineering projects by using MS Project and other MS Office products.
• Working knowledge of aerospace tooling concepts, materials, processes and thorough knowledge of Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5)
• Familiarity with specifications and requirements for aerospace component manufacturing that includes having knowledge of aerospace welding, coatings, heat treatment, machining and sheetmetal fabrications.
• Strong math background including trigonometry and geometry
• Able to research and implement new technologies for possible cost savings and process improvements.
• Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well with others in a team-based environment.

Job Skills

• High school diploma from a technical trade school.
• Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline preferred.
• 5+ years of related work experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment with a focus on designing complex tooling in SolidWorks.
• Normal office working conditions with the absence of disagreeable elements. Spend a reasonable amount of time on the shop floor.
