Job Description

• Plans programs to control surface mount equipment.
• Analyzes engineering drawings to determine component and paste requirements and placement.
• Develops original sequence of operations and makes recommendations regarding changes in processes to enhance efficiency and/or quality.
• Revises and/or updates programs to reflect engineering changes or program improvements.
• Using a computer terminal selects and recalls appropriate program file(s).
• Sets-up and operates paste dispensing machine, component installer machine and reflow oven.
• Selects required parts and/or components. Loads dispensers and feeders. Locates and manually sets starting positions using display terminal.
• Completes assembly by manually mounting and soldering components not assembled by automatic machines (this is done under a microscope).
• Inspects components, boards and processes to insure conformance to quality standards.
• Checks for irregularities and defects. Touches-up and repairs circuit boards, as necessary.
• Performs preventative maintenance on machinery including cleaning, greasing and replacing/adjusting parts.
• Performs general tasks to support the machines computer equipment and software program including hard disk backups, installing software and troubleshooting basic hardware problems.
• Performs the position responsibilities of the Operator, Wave Solder Machine during periods of heavy workloads or absences.

Job Skills

• Soldering under a microscope. Personal computer skills including knowledge of operating systems, file retrieval and storing.
• Working Conditions: Exposed to hot temperatures sufficient to cause serious burns.
• Exposed to fumes, grease and solder. Exposed to moving, mechanical parts.
• Job Hazards: Possible burns, contusions, cuts and bruises.
• Dexterity: Loading machines with minute parts and keyboarding are essential requirements of the job.
• Physical Demand: Operator is frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) moving between machines. Occasionally carries and lifts objects weighing up to 10 lbs. Some stooping/bending is required when selecting parts/components to load into the machines and when cleaning the machines. Reaches, picks, holds, turns and places objects using hands and fingers. Keyboards using fingers. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or less, depth perception and color vision required to select and place components and determine soldering quality.
• Mental and Visual Demand: Continuous mental and visual attention in planning, laying out and performing work.
• Two years of printed wire assembly experience.
• Must be able to pass background and drug screening.
