Job Description

• Able to apply knowledge of machine shop practice/procedures
• Understand the basic concepts to lay out hardware to exacting tolerances and be capable of performing 100% dimensional inspection and measure dimensions such as angles, arcs, and radii of complex components and sub-assemblies.
• Verify inspection equipment, machinery, and tools used are calibrated per company procedures.
• Capable of locating datums and other gaging points on castings, forgings and all components.
• Capable of marking guide lines and reference points used to indicate material which will be removed manually, by machining, or etching processes.
• Accurately complete all quality documentation, such as inspection record sheets, quality plans and receiving inspection documents.
• Initiate NMR documentation when parts are nonconforming per the Quality system.
• Must have full working knowledge in the use of inspection tools and gages, such as scribes, vernier calipers, height gages, depth gages, micrometers, cylindrical plugs and thread gages, periphery or PI tapes, decimal scales, indicators, inspection fixtures, optical comparator, coordinate measuring machine and other manual/automated measuring devices.
• Perform in-process and machine inspection on such equipment as vertical boring mills, radial drills, laser machines, water jet and lathes.
• Perform bench dimensional inspection of machined rings, spinning, forgings, castings, sub-assemblies and assemblies.
• Perform visual and dimensional inspection of welds prior to fluorescent penetrate testing,
• Setup and try out inspection equipment to ensure accuracy.
• Perform hardness checks of work piece surfaces.
• The ability to be responsible for assigned tasks and the authority to perform them.

Job Skills

• Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 2 – 4 years of documented, related experience in quality inspection in a manufacturing environment.
• Basic computer skills are required.
• Knowledgeable in the use of “V” blocks, jo-blocks, knees, planer and thread gages.
• Must possess the ability read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, engineering blueprints, and be able to understand and apply GD&T concepts.
• Obtain product information such as specified material, surface finish, and dimensions from blueprints and engineering specs.
• Posses the ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions from work instructions, process specifications, and direction of supervisor in completing a variety of inspection tasks.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before employees in the organization.
