Job Description

• Manages the daily Quality Assurance functions of the facilities to ensure product safety, raw material and finished product compliance to established specifications, compliance to existing food regulations and sanitary operating conditions.
• Developing, implementing and maintaining food safety and quality programs to assure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
• Serving as HACCP and SQF Practitioner for facility.
• Conducting annual reviews of HACCP program.
• Conducting HACCP records reviews and pre-shipment reviews.
• Verifying operational sanitation inspections of plant.
• Acting as facility recall coordinator and conducting mock recalls as part of company’s product recall program.
• Assisting in development and maintenance of product specifications for products manufactured in the facilities.
• Maintaining programs for control of raw materials: COAs and COC’s.
• Policing the facilities Hold/Release program to ensure proper control of non- conforming products.
• Reviewing new labels to ensure regulatory compliance and issue generic label approvals to amenable products.
• Investigating and responding to consumer complaints involving products produced at the facility.
• Supervising QA Technicians and Quality Supervisors personnel, ensuring personnel are properly trained and qualified.
• Ensuring that in process checks, raw material evaluations and HACCP checks are conducted at sufficient frequency to ensure food safety and product quality.
• Ensuring that sanitation function maintains acceptable levels of operational sanitation through random visual verifications.
• Representing the company in meetings with regulatory inspection personnel, 3rd party auditors.
• Leading in preparation for SQF inspection to assure that requisite quality and food safety programs and procedures are in place and updated.
• Overseeing pest control and sanitation activities for the facilities.
• Performing other job quality-related duties as needed or directed.
• Monitoring plant processes to ensure compliance to processing guidelines and minimize scrap and over usages.
• Assisting R&D in trial runs of new products.
• Assisting on Label, and Packaging Changes, Will review all new packaging for accuracy, and compliance issues.

• Must have advanced knowledge of effective quality standards, practices and techniques pertaining to food sanitation work.
• Ability to work overtime as required (flexible schedule)
• Ability to motivate the department staff to produce maximum result.
• Ability to learn, implement and work under Lean manufacturing program.
• Computer and office equipment skills and experience.
• Leadership skills and the ability to speak effectively with coworkers or groups of coworkers, supervisors or others within the company.
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Technology, or Food Science preferred or sufficient experience in the food industry to cover the technical skills needed.
• Excellent leadership, communications and team building skills
• Certified in HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points)
• Certified in a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard such as BRC or SQF
• Understanding of microbiology aseptic sampling, methods, and interpretation
• Good writing, statistics (SPC and charting), analytical, and critical thinking skills
• Proficient in computers including spreadsheets, statistical programs, and SAP applications
• 5-7 years of experience in a dairy or food producing facility under SQF Level 2 or 3 Certification.
• Completion of at least two SQF audits a must
