Job Description

  • Design and develop custom, high performance cable constructions to meet customer’s electrical, mechanical, and environmental performance requirements for imaging, diagnostic and therapeutic, surgical, and interventional cable interconnect market segments.
  • Apply technical knowledge to model cable design, cable fabrication, materials, and assembly-level requirements to meet scope (e.g., performance and quality), schedule (e.g., on time delivery), and budget (e.g., price) constraints.
  • Develops design solutions to complex technical problems where analysis of data requires an in-depth evaluation of many factors.  Solutions require use of ingenuity and creativity.
  • Performs work under general supervision on multiple NPI projects.  Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. 
  • Generate design specifications, create cable construction drawings in 2-D or 3-D CAD, participate in technical reviews during an early assessment of business opportunity, and document bill of materials to support quote preparation..
  • Translate customer’s product requirements into achievable product specifications and design features.
  • Apply performance test results to cable design modeling assumptions and improve subsequent cable designs.
  • Participate in FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis) and risk analysis reviews on NPI (New Product Introduction) products. 
  • Participate in a series of cross-functional design reviews throughout the NPI process.

Job Skills

  • B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred); M.S. or Ph.D. in Engineering a plus.
  • Five or more years electro-mechanical, coax, power, or video cable product design and development engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of cable construction materials, signal transmission and cable design principles such that design choices can be made with little or no technical guidance is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of fine wire (38 AWG or smaller) design, manufacturing, and termination a plus.
  • Medical product development experience and knowledge of FDA regulations preferred.
  • Can-do attitude, resourceful, action oriented, and drive for results.
  • Demonstrated technical contribution through creative product design solutions that have been successfully launched into the market.
  • Demonstrated inventiveness through invention disclosures, patents, active participation in professional organizations, technical conference presentations, etc…
