Job Description
• Buying electronic and mechanical parts, materials, equipment, tools and services working from approved purchase requisitions
• Contacting vendors for product information and bids
• Establishing new, alternative sources of supply by identifying and investigating companies with desired product lines or where vendors and preferred suppliers are inadequate
• Contacting vendors and expediting delivery of all orders to assure adherence to committed items, quantities and delivery dates
• Advising internal personnel regarding available products, order status and purchasing procedures
• Coordinating with engineering, manufacturing and quality control in planning purchases of material and parts
• Seeking minority, small and women owned suppliers
• Negotiating contracts where loss occurring through error in judgment could involve a large dollar volume
• Negotiating prices to ensure that purchases are the best price
• Working with Division personnel to evaluate bids and proposals from vendors
Job Skills
• Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university preferred.
• At least 3 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A strong knowledge of Government Procurement, the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) is necessary for this position. A strong compliance background is required.
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both a verbal and written format clearly and concisely- At least 3 years of experience working with MRP database systems is preferred and costpoint experience is desired.
• Experience in purchasing electronic parts and metal work, as well as knowledge of applicable vendor bases is required.
• Experience buying other commodities, particularly circuit card assemblies, cable assemblies and metal is desired.
• Positive attitude, ability to contribute in a team environment, and being a self-starter is essential.
