Job Description

  • Directs and performs complicated engineering work exercising independent judgment and action. Directs and performs applied research, design, development, testing, and documentation of HV related subcomponents of products or systems.
  • Works directly with internal and external customers to understand equipment/system requirements and ensure the best solution for the application(s).
  • Provides direction and mentors engineers and cross-functional colleagues.
  • Internal and external contacts are leveraged to resolve significant matters and influence strategic direction.
  • Responsible for the design and analysis of HV related subcomponents for systems, products, and subsystems/circuits to specification, cost, budget, schedule, and quality goals.
  • Responsible for material stress analysis using finite element methods, selecting suitable materials for use with HV, analyzing and solving HV stress related problems, understanding reliability of materials over time, assessing methods of size reduction in HV transformers and assemblies.
  • Responsible for moulding, encapsulation and bonding technologies, materials, processes, implementation, systems and creating best practice documents.
  • Responsible to address significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles related to design and development within the global customer and AE environment.
  • Owns the success of the product/system in the customers’ applications by assisting in the planning, scoping, scheduling, strategy orientation, design validation and implementation of project development projects. Talks the customers’ language.
  • Maintains contacts, leads, and influences peers in the technical community (internally and externally) to contribute to the development and advancement in creative and effective ways of the interests, goals and objectives related to AE and customer’s professional objectives as associated with current business trends.
  • Mentors engineers and colleagues, forming/developing any direct reports
  • Recognized by the technical leadership within engineering for both leadership and technical skills consistent with the requirements for a Senior Staff Engineer
  • Able to identify existing IP opportunities in processes and practices and develop towards patents.
  • Able to research industry IP and outline programs to develop IP to advance HV technology.
  • Ability to understand our existing technologies and compare to our competitors. Including market surveys, test and teardown of competitive products.
  • Suggest and create technology roadmaps to enhance performance, cost, reliability and customer value proposition.
  • Must be able to travel 5% of the time. Travel involves international and domestic travel to remote sites, customers and vendors to fulfill essential responsibilities and functions.

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering/Science or similar.
  • Advanced Degree in Engineering or Science desirable, but not required
