Job Description
- Provide support to the Experimental Facilities Division for design, specification, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning and operational maintenance planning tasks for the NSLS-II beamlines and ensure these are constructed to comply with relevant national codes and standards as well as those of company, and the NSLS II project.
- This is a medium level position for a utility engineer who will assist the Beamline Engineering Group in designing, procuring, installing, commissioning and establishing periodic maintenance procedures for the utilities, including process water systems, compressed air, gases, exhaust systems for the NSLS-II project beamline experimental enclosures.
- Assist in engineering design, fabrication and installation of utility systems for NSLS-II.
- Will report to the Beamline Mechanical Engineering Group Leader.
Job Skills
- Requires a BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience in practical work on industrial, commercial or laboratory mechanical utility systems.
- Knowledge of engineering fundamentals in hydraulics, pneumatics, machine design, analysis, materials, manufacturing processes and value engineering, as relevant to such utility systems.
- Experience in using 2-D and 3-D design and drafting tools.
- A high degree of initiative.
- The ability to plan, coordinate and perform given assignments with minimum supervision
- Good communication and interpersonal skills are required to interact with a diverse group of technical staff and to supervise work performed by facility staff and/or contractors.
- Work experience or training in an accelerator facility.
- Hands-on experience with utilities monitoring instrumentation.
